Golden Living to Break Ground for Nursing Home of the Future

Golden Living is constructing the "nursing home of the future" at 4801 Old Zuck Road in Erie, PA. The new facility will replace the existing nursing home located on Peach Street. The current building houses 115 residents in approximately 28,000 square feet, while the new facility will be much-larger at 72,065 square feet.

The new facility is scheduled to be completed by February 2010.

"We're thrilled to be launching our new building at the groundbreaking ceremony on July 8," said Aaron Ackley, Executive Director of Golden LivingCenter-Erie. "This is going to be an exciting day for everyone who will be a part of our LivingCenter. We're all looking forward to the completion of the building so we can provide additional resources and a more homelike atmosphere for our residents. The new equipment and technology will enable us to enhance the care and service we provide."

The new nursing home will have five separate and self-contained "neighborhoods"--each with accommodations for 20 to 30 people. Each neighborhood features its own living room, private dining area and "country kitchen". There is going to be a central atrium where residents can meet for conversation and relaxation. Individual rooms have also improved. Each resident's room will have its own bathroom and shower.
