Most people know that nursing home abuse is a big problem in the United States today. Events like the beating of Ivory Jackson really bring this sort of problem to the public awareness. Recently, the Governor of Illinois proclaimed July as Elder Abuse Awareness month to bring even more attention to this horrendous problem.

"Our seniors have the right to be treated with dignity, respect and to feel safe and secure. Unfortunately, many seniors find themselves the victims of abuse and neglect which is unacceptable," said Gov. Blagojevich.

Nursing homes can and will take away the legal rights of abuse victims. Legislation such as The Fairness in Nursing Home Arbitration Act will give some of the power back to the victims.
