A New Zealand rest home and its manager have been given cessation and closure orders by authorities after "overwhelming deficiencies" have been found. The orders mean that the rest home can no longer provide any sort of health services at any location.
The manager, Ms. Hooper, may no longer be involved in any sort of management of any health facility. She has been reported to the Nursing Council for investigation.
The orders have followed the case of a woman whose mouth was taped shut after she was deemed to be making too much noise. The incident of nursing home abuse was discovered by a worker who took pictures with his cellphone.
The investigation also revealed another case of abuse where a man in his 70s was locked outside in the middle of the night. A women was charged with assault in the incident.
