I found an article in the Edmonton Journal that discusses the summer heat and its negative effects on nursing home residents.
Sylvia Van Haitsma says that it was a problem last summer and it is problem this one as well. Her mother sits in horrible heat at the Jubilee Lodge Nursing Home in Edmonton and she is concerned as the temperatures skyrocket.
She says that the temperatures are already preventing her mother from going to bed at her usual time and many of the nursing home residents are inside seeking refuge from the heat.
"Everyone looks like a wilted rag," she said.
A notice was issued at the Jubilee lodge that was to set up measures to be taken by staff to keep residents cool and safe during the summer. The measures included placing fans in hallways and setting up drapes to block the sun, as well as providing ice cream for the residents.
The chief operating officer for the lodge, Blair Halliday, said that overheating rooms is a problem that facilities across the city face every summer.
Here's an idea: how about providing AIR CONDITIONING for your residents??
